How often do you describe yourself as being happy or being sad, calm or upset, inspired or frustrated, stressed or laid-back? Did you know that your choice of words to describe any situation then becomes your reality, your experience — your feelings — it’s really a personal thing. The words you plant in your mind to grow into thoughts about your view of the world quickly become your reality.
Read any newspaper. What type of articles do you turn to? For example, do your eyes select sentences about violence and injustice to support a belief in a dangerous world? Or do you select sentences about kindness and justice to support a belief in a caring, safe world? What kind of world do you believe we live in? You may see only the things that support your reality. To know yourself you must understand what lies beneath the surface of your street face, the face you put on for others. When do you say things you don’t mean? Why do you do this? Are you willing to be more honest? Are you afraid that you won’t be accepted if you reveal who you are? Do you like yourself?
Your thought patterns are groups of related thoughts that form a theme. They regulate and determine the way you live your life. They affect the way you relate to others and give an insight into what motivates you. By changing your thought patterns you free yourself to explore other ways of seeing other realities. When you manage your thoughts you manage your life!
